What is air pollution? - First2Wishes

What is air pollution in short?

Air pollution is the imbalance of air ratio i.e. Nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, argon, and other gases in the atmosphere which is harmful to the animals, plants and for a human.

In other words, air pollution is the biological or chemical, physical changes in the air with respect to the normal air in the atmosphere can be termed as pollution.

In normal conditions the atmosphere has nitrogen(78.09%),  oxygen(20.95%), argon(0.93%), carbon dioxide(0.04%), and small amounts of other gases. Air also has a small variable amount of water vapor, which is average around 1% at sea level, and 0.4% over the entire atmosphere of earth.

Air pollution occurs due to harmful or excessive quantities of substances including gases, particulates, and biological or chemical molecules are introduced into Earth's atmosphere.

Air pollution causes-

There are mainly two types of causes of air pollution-

1. Natural pollution.

2. Man-made pollution.

What is natural air pollution?

The pollution which is occurred naturally or due to nature can be called natural pollution.

From a Natural word you might be able to know it that it is done by our environment. We can't control it. In a simple word, the air pollution done by nature or environment can be called Natural air pollution.

There are several causes of natural air pollutions.

1.Dust particle

2. Smoke

3. Forest fire

4. Pollen rain

5. Volcanic eruption

There are several natural air pollutants including radon, fog and mist, ozone, ash, soot, salt spray, and volcanic and combustion gases are causes air pollution.

Radon, which is a radioactive gas that seeps from the ground in some areas.

Dense water vapor fog and mist which are in a ground level that obscures vision.

Ozone is a form of oxygen, is a pollutant at the ground. It causes damages plants and breathing problems of human in the lower atmosphere.

Volcanic eruptions and forest, swamp and grass fires launch soot, carbon dioxide, and ash into the atmosphere, which reduces sunlight and lowers temperatures.

Due to Eruptions and fires produces carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and other polluting gases which causes different types of diseases and is very harmful to life.

What is Man-made air pollution?

The pollution occurred due to human activities. The pollution which is occurred due to human activities such as combustion of fuel, use of electricity, transportation etc. are called human or artificial air pollution.

There are several causes of human or artificial air pollution. Different types of human activities caused by air pollution.

1. Burning

2. mining process

3. A spray of chemical fertilizer

4. Waste Material improper disposal

What is the effect of air pollution?

The air pollution is dangerous for the environment and its life's i.e. animals, plants and human.

Some air pollutes i.e. Nitrogen Dioxide, Sulphur Dioxide, Ozone etc are increasing the symptoms, irritate the airways of the lungs and causes lungs diseases.

The unwanted small particles in the air can be carried deep into the lungs of the body where they can cause inflammation and a worsening of heart and lung diseases.

Carbon Monoxide prevents the uptake of oxygen by the blood and lead to a significant reduction in the supply of oxygen to the heart and causes heart disease.

Air pollution is very dangerous for plants. Its decreases photosynthesis, productivity in plants.

Due to the high amount of air pollution global warming is causes. Due to global warming sea level is increased.

Air pollution also increases greenhouse gases(example: Carbon dioxide, Methane etc.) are gradually increased, therefore the average temperature of the earth is increasing.

Air pollution destroys the ozone layer. Ozone (O3) is a gas which is present in the stratosphere which protects us from solar ultraviolet radiation. Air pollutant CFC (chlorofluorocarbons) which is also called ozone holder is present in the air conditioner, in the refrigerator has destroyed the ozone layer.

The industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases cause air pollution and it contains sulfur and nitrogen oxides which combine with atmospheric water and form acids. It falls into the earth surface as acid rain which is very harmful.

Air pollution solutions

The control strategies to control the air pollutants are:

1. We can convert the high harmful gases into less harmful gases by using different techniques. There are several physical and chemical methods like absorption method, an adsorption method, the scriber method can be used to convert the harmful gas into low harmful gases.

2. The plant has a main role in the control of air pollution. It absorbs the Carbon dioxide form environment.

3. Use of modern techniques in an automobile to decrease the amount of smoke in the environment.

4. The government should make some laws, which is strictly followed by the people.

5. People should be aware of the harmful causes and effects of air pollutions. People need to know what strategies should be used for control the air pollution.

6. People should use environmentally friendly fuel like CNG and other fuel which causes less air pollution.

7. Recycle the waste material which decreases air pollution.
